Janet Kipling

Cake director Janet Kipling has more than 20 years of experience as a journalist in newspapers, and as a BBC radio reporter, producer and presenter. Now she's jumped the fence to work in public relations, her natural creative knack for spotting and developing a good story means she can get journalists interested in you.

An expert writer of press releases, features, briefings and statements, Janet also has the experience and organisational clout to developing simple and do-able strategies to get you the attention of the media and your target audience.

Crisis management is another strength - during the 2001 foot and mouth crisis when she was with the RSPCA, she was one of the country's top spokespeople on the issue.

Janet is also a respected media trainer who has worked with clients ranging from charity volunteers to corporate executives, encouraging and inspiring their best media performances. She also has extensive copy-writing experience, breathing creativity, clarity and zing into brochures, reports and briefing documents.

Born in Hertfordshire, Janet was educated in Singapore and Somerset, taking her degree at the University of Warwick and her postgraduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism at Bristol Polytechnic. After a thorough grounding on local weekly papers in Devon and Somerset, she joined the BBC in Taunton as a reporter. Moving to BBC Radio Devon shortly afterwards, she was soon presenting her own magazine programme.

An offer to become the RSPCA's first south west regional press officer in 1998 was too good to miss, a role to which Janet was dedicated for five years.

As well as leading the Cake team she still takes on occasional radio presentation work as well as teaching yoga - a hobby that got out of hand.
