Cake consultant Heather Long
was born in Exeter and spent her childhood in Devon and Cornwall.
After leaving school in Tiverton, Heather became an apprentice reporter on the local newspaper - the start of a career that would take her via newspapers in Devon and Hampshire to the newsrooms of BBC Radio Devon and to BBC Television's regional programme Spotlight.
After taking a break from news reporting to spend time with her three young sons, Heather has returned to writing, producing magazine features, consultation documents and press releases for Cake's clients.
The diversity of her career in regional news has left Heather with an ability to draw out all sorts of interesting angles from a whole range of subject matter, and a flare for dealing with all sections of the public, from lords to travellers, teachers to teenagers, farmers to animal rights activists, children to pensioners.
