Cake consultant Annette Richman
has worked in both national and regional media during her 20 year career in journalism, gathering many excellent contacts along the way.
Most recently as News Editor at ITV Westcountry, Annette was in charge of all newsgathering for ITV in the south west of England. Here she became an expert in story selection and deciding which press releases could be turned into engaging television reports - and which ones ended up in the bin!
Her work at Westcountry Television has also involved grooming interviewees and journalists on presentation techniques and style and advising companies on how to convey their message.
Before joining ITV in 1993, Annette spent several years on the frantically busy London newsdesks at ITN and Sky News, quickly developing skills in good communication and in writing with clarity, speed and accuracy.
While working for the Exeter based News Agency, Devon and Exeter Press, Annette wrote for many national newspapers learning how to spot a story which would sell and then identifying the right story for the right publication.
Annette has strong links with the South West. Born in Plymouth, she was educated locally. Following an NCTJ Journalism Training course in Cardiff she returned to the area to serve an apprenticeship on the North Devon Journal before joining the Western Morning News as a district reporter.
